Nantwich v Buxton

County insurance are very proud sponsors of our local football team Nantwich Town F.C. We attend the games on a regular basis and really enjoy watching them play. We have decided due to the positive feedback from some of the clubs supporters about our last review when they played Stamford to do another review of their game against Buxton. (Pictured below is Nantwich Centre Back Mat Bailey he also works for County Insurance)

After heavy rain all day Tuesday many expected the game to be postponed but the ground staff did a excellent job getting the game on aswell as having the pitch looking as good as it did.

There was not a great deal of chances in the game with both sides lacking a real cutting edge and both goalkeepers not tested greatly throughout the match. However there were moments of quality and a few talking points to get the crowd on the edge of their seats.

After an even 20 minutes Buxton took the lead when Liam Hardy connected well from a cross from the left wing to score past the Nantwich goalkeeper Steven James.

Just 5 minutes later unfortunately for Buxton their goalkeeper suffered a nasty looking injury after Steve Foster slid in and collided with the goalkeeper. Unfortunately for Buxton they didn’t have a substitute goalkeeper so had to bring on midfielder Steve Istead.

With Nantwich looking to take advantage of Buxtons goalkeeping problems they scored just after the 30 minute mark when Andrew Pearson smashed a left footed shot on the edge of the area past Istead to make it 1-1 at half time.

In the 2nd half there were very few chances for either side. However with the full time whistle looming Nantwich got a golden opportunity to win the game when they got a free-kick on the edge of the area. Max Harrop stepped up but blazed his shot over the bar much to the annoyance of everyone in the ground.

The result was probably a fair result as neither side created enough chances to say they deserved to win the game however Nantwich will be disappointed with the few chances they did create as they had 60 minutes with a stand in goalkeeper and only tested him a couple of times.

We look forward to attending Nantwich’s next game and look out for our next review of the game.
