Friday 2nd to Sunday 4th September saw the return of The Nantwich Food Festival, a highly successful foodies paradise which has grown in visitor numbers year after year.
The 2016 festival had three large marquees and a host of street stalls throughout the historic market town, with The County Group sponsoring one of the main marquees in Love Lane within the heart of the town. We were also dubbed “The Office Insurance Partner” of the festival as The County Group insured the whole event across the town.
Thousands of visitors flocked to this years festival to sample the wide variety of world foods on offer and enjoy live music and street entertainment throughout the town. The County Group decided to bake one thousand cakes to give away for free, in return for charity donations for Hope House, a charity that provides care and support for terminally ill children.
Nicky Kirkham, wife of County Group Nantwich branch manager Adam Kirkham, and Sheena Penkeyman, an apprentice within the Group, are both keen bakers and kindly volunteered their time to bake brownies, flapjacks and fairy cakes. In fact, they baked over 1000 cakes and come the end of the festival on Sunday, every single one had been sampled!
Jean-Christophe Novelli – “The Nations favourite French Chef”with 2 Michelin stars and countless TV appearances – was the celebrity chef of The Nantwich Show and was so impressed by our home baked charity cakes initiative that he decided to drop by and congratulate us in person.
Our sincere thanks go to Nicky Kirkham and Sheena Penkeyman for their hard work in producing over 1000 cakes and also to Jean-Christophe for taking the time to come and see us and our cakes. We raised over £240 for Hope House! Thank you to everyone who donated and this money will keep supporting their incredible work.
Finally, congratulations to the organisers and volunteers of The Nantwich Food Festival for putting on another fantastic festival in 2016 and looking forward to 2017 already!
